Pomeroys Fall to Governors State at ONU Tournament, Return to Action Nov. 13

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team dropped a 68–45 decision to Governors State University on Saturday afternoon at the ONU Tournament.

The Pomeroys (0–2) opened strong, building a 19–13 lead after the first quarter behind early scoring from Abigail Parker, who posted a game-high 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting. However, Governors State's defensive pressure and balanced attack took over in the middle quarters, limiting SMWC to just 14 points combined in the second and third periods.

Governors State (1–1) outscored the Pomeroys 23–7 in the third frame to pull away. The Jaguars shot 46.4% from the field and 36.4% from three-point range, while SMWC finished at 37.0% overall and just 1-for-13 from long distance.

Parker's 24 points led all scorers, and Talyssa Moody added 10 points off the bench. Samara Douglas contributed six rebounds and three steals, while Elayni Stone and Jonnaya Harris each chipped in defensively with two steals apiece.

Governors State was paced by Davina Smith with 19 points and Cencere McDaniel with 17. The Jaguars also held a 37–28 rebounding edge and forced 22 SMWC turnovers, converting those into 25 points.

The Pomeroys will regroup before returning to action on Thursday, November 13, when they travel to Georgetown (Ky.) at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
