CARLINVILLE, Ill. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball rolled to a straight-set road win at Blackburn College on Tuesday night, defeating the Beavers 25-20, 26-24, 25-19.
The Pomeroys (29-2) attacked efficiently, hitting .319 as a team while limiting Blackburn to a .125 percentage. SMWC tallied 54 kills to just 22 from the hosts, with a balanced offensive effort leading the way.
Lisanel Rodriguez paced the attack with 15 kills, hitting .286 with two block assists for 16 points.
Holly Linville added 14 kills at a .476 clip, while
Masa Pesic chipped in 12 kills and an ace. Setter
Ariana Cruz-Gonzalez directed the offense with 25 assists and contributed an ace and four digs. Defensively,
Evelyn Morales recorded three block assists, while the Pomeroys out-dug Blackburn 49-36.
Blackburn was led by Rean Ward with six kills and Zoe Mitchell with five.
With the victory, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods closed non-conference play and now turns its attention to a key River States Conference matchup. The Pomeroys will travel to Kokomo, Ind., to face IU-Kokomo on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 7 p.m. (ET) in a battle at the top of the league standings.
