GRAYSON, Ky. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team continued its strong season Friday afternoon with a dominant
3-0 sweep of Kentucky Christian University. The Pomeroys improved to
23-2 overall and 6-1 in River States Conference play with the victory.
Set scores were
25-20, 25-13, 25-9, as SMWC steadily built momentum throughout the match.
The Pomeroys were efficient offensively, hitting
.305 as a team while limiting KCU to just
.018. Senior
Karla Melendez paced the attack with
9 kills and 2 aces, while
Masa Pesic added 6 kills and
Lisanel Rodriguez chipped in 5. Setter
Aden Britt guided the offense with
17 assists, supported by
Ariana Cruz-Gonzalez (5 assists) and
Ryan Canter (4 assists).
Defensively, SMWC controlled the net and the floor.
Sofia Soto and
Evelyn Morales each tallied
4 blocks, while
Leishmarie Virella anchored the back row with a match-high
14 digs. Melendez (9 digs) and Britt (8 digs) also contributed to the defensive effort.
With the win, SMWC has now won five of its last six matches and continues to push for position atop the RSC standings.
The Pomeroys are right back in action on
Saturday, Oct. 11, at noon (ET) when they travel to face Shawnee State.
