TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to visiting Oakland City in the River States Conference opener for both clubs on a damp Saturday afternoon. The game was moved to the campus of Rose-Hulman due to the heavy rains in the area over the last 48 hours.
SMWC fell to 1-5-2 on the season, including an 0-1 mark in RSC play while Oakland City improved to 5-4-0, 1-0 RSC.
The two teams battled to a scoreless draw in the first half until Oakland City broke through in the 46th minute to take a 1-0 advantage.
Kennedy Trigg scored her team leading sixth goal of the season in the 54th minute to level the score at 1. She received an assist from
Roxie Foerg en route to tying the match.
But Oakland City would counter again with a goal in the 83rd minute to take a 2-1 lead that they would not lose in earning the victory.
Trigg paced the offensive attack with the goal scored and three shots on goal.
Yajaira Jimenez played all 90 minutes in goal for the Pomeroys recording five saves.
The Pomeroys will begin a three-match roadswing on Thursday, October 3 when they travel to Rio Grande (Ohio) for a 4 p.m. (ET) kickoff.
