DANIELS, W.V. -- The River States Conference Preview battled tough weather conditions over a two-day stretch and the event was called after 27 holes of play with the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's golf team finishing in second place among the eight team field.
The event was held at the Glade Springs Resort and hosted by West Virginia Tech. Glade Springs Resort is a par-72 layout.
Midway was victorious in the event with an opening round score of 318 and a Tuesday score of 154 for a total of 472 and the championship. The Pomeroys were right there with an opening round of 324 and a total of 156 on Tuesday for a total of 480Â which was just eight strokes off the lead. IU-East was charging when the event was called but finished in third with a total of 481. SMWC also defeated Oakland City, IU-Kokomo, Rio Grande, Shawnee State and Alice Lloyd College in the event.
Renae Jaeger posted an opening round of 80 and followed that with a 35 on Tuesday for a total of 115 which was good enough for second place on the individual side of the competition. She finished just two strokes behind Casey Cameron of Midway whose total of 113 won the event.
Sophia Boyll posted an opener of 78 and tallied a 38 on Tuesday for a total of 116 which finished just behind Jaeger for third place.
Macie Shirk followed up her opening round of 77 with a 44 for a total of 121 which put her in eighth place.Â
Bailey Barker who won the Alice Lloyd College Fall Invitational recorded an opening round of 89 and and a 41 on Tuesday for a total of 130 which put her in 20th place.
Kristin Pagach carded a 94 on Monday and was at 41 on Tuesday before the event was ended. Her total of 135 came in 26th place.
The Pomeroys will be on short rest before their next tournament which is set for September 27 & 28 in Decatur, Ill., for the Milliken Invitational. The event begins with a 1:00 p.m. (CT) shotgun start at the South Side Country Club. The event continues on Saturday with an 8:00 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.
