SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volleyball team dropped its final home match of the regular season by a 3-0 decision to No. 11 IU-Kokomo in front of a large crowd inside Knoerle Center on Senior Night.
The Woods fell to 30-6, 9-6 River States Conference while IU-Kokomo improved to 29-4, 16-0 RSC. SMWC will travel to Brescia (Ky.) for its final match of the regular season looking for a win and the right to host an opening round RSC playoff contest on Tuesday, November 14. Only the top four seeds in the league host opening round contests.
Set scores for the match were 25-21, 25-15 and 25-22. The Pomeroys jumped out to a 10-5 lead in set number three looking to extend the match but IU-Kokomo posted eight of nine points after trailing early and were able to take a lead that they would not relinquish.
SMWC was led offensively by
Karla Melendez who tallied 11 kills against just two errors for a .450 attack percentage.
Lisanel Rodriguez posted eight kills and a .263 average while
Tori Schopmeyer posted six kills in the contest.
Alexis Keoho led the way with 17 set assists while
Aden Britt tallied 14.
Audrey Lee and
Alexa Stiff each had a serve ace while
Jocelyn Chavez posted 13 digs and
Isabel Hansen recorded three total blocks.
