RICHMOND, Ind. - Saint Mary-of-the-Woods picked up a huge win for the program Saturday at Indiana University East. 
IUE entered the action on a nine-match winning streak and was tied for first place in the River States Conference West Division with IU Kokomo at 13-2 in conference play, but the Pomeroys came to play from the start to improve to 24-5 overall and 10-5 in the RSC with a 25-18, 31-29, 27-25 victory. 
Hananh Zuege led the Pomeroys with 17 kills, and freshman Shirley Marina, stepping into the lineup for an injured Amber Doyle, came up with a career-best 16 kills. 
It was SMWC's first ever victory over IU East. 
"Speechless right now," coach Ashley Harris said. "We came into this match with multiple players playing less than 100 percent, multiple players injured, and still found a way to beat the No. 1 team in the division in their gym on Senior Day of all times. These girls never quit, they never doubted what we were asking them to do, and we pulled off the biggest regular-season win in program history." 
Jade Llamas had 26 assists and Jocelyn Chavez led the defense with 21 digs. 
The Pomeroys return to action Tuesday at IU Southeast.
