Pomeroys leave Rio Grande with a 1-0 victory

The Pomeroys met up with the Red Storm of Rio Grande Thursday night as the Pomeroys are playing the second game of a three-game road stretch to end their regular season. The match was tightly contested throughout until Sierra Mullins broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 70th minute off an assist from Kaylee Lowe, and that held for the final score of 1-0.
This is Mullins's sixth goal on the season and Lowe got her second assist of the season. Kaylee Thaler stopped all nine of the Red Storm's shots on goal
"This is what we are capable of when we are healthy," said Head Coach Ron Kiernicki after the hard-fought win.
The Red Storm might be a sub .500 team on the season, but Coach Kiernicki did not see that as a reason to overlook them. "Rio is a great team and well coached," he said. "Our ladies had to dig deep to get their well-deserved win."
The team will look to take this momentum into their final game of the regular season as they travel to Ohio Christian on Saturday. "We need to take this momentum into Ohio Christian and finish the season on a good note," said Coach Kiernicki.
The Pomeroys still have a slim chance of making the postseason but will need a lot of help to make the conference tournament. The Pomeroys will need to first win their match at Ohio Christian on Saturday, but they will also need Rio Grande to lose to Brescia and Carlow to lose to Oakland City. If those three things happen the Pomeroys will clinch the sixth and final spot for the conference tournament thanks to having the head-to-head victory over Rio Grande. The Pomeroys will kickoff at Ohio Christian at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
