The Pomeroys traveled to Ohio Christian University for the final game of the regular season. The Pomeroys needed a win to at least keep their hopes of a conference tournament birth alive, with some extra help in other games. The Pomeroys did what they needed to do as they won 1-0 thanks to a late goal scored by Carley Balas in the 85
th minute. This was here second goal on the season. Kaylee Thaler shutout the Trailblazers with 11 saves during the game.
"We finished the season on a good note," said Head Coach Ron Kiernicki, "I am extremely proud of what this team has accomplished, especially considering the challenges we faced."
Balas scored the lone goal of the game from long range. "Balas pulled the trigger about 40 yards out to find our goal," he said. "We spent 80% of the game in our attacking half and the ladies were moving the ball tactically, systematically, and communicated very well."
Thaler played at a different level today having several great saves. "Thaler is always good, but she made some next level saves today," he said, "By far the best game I have seen her have to date."
Injuries took over the season for the Pomeroys this year, but Coach Kiernicki is still proud of what his team was able to accomplish this year. "We will take the next few weeks off to recover and celebrate," he said, "We are a very young team with a bright future."
The Pomeroys fall just two points short of making the conference tournament as Rio Grande won their match to keep the Pomeroys out. The Pomeroys finish the season 4-7-3 overall and 3-5-2 in RSC play.
