SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volleyball team fell to Marian University on Wednesday night in Hamilton Arena to move to 4-14 on the year. The Pomeroys fell in the three straight sets, 15-25, 16-25, 14-25.

The Pomeroys were led in kills by sophomore Gabriella Slagle with nine. Sophomore Monica Mack and McKenzi Kumpf each recorded four kills. Sophomore Mary Alvanos led SMWC in assists with 16, while junior Madeline Howes recorded a team-high 13 digs.

The Pomeroys got off to a rough start in set one, as they found themselves trailing 10-1. Given the rough start, the Pomeroys did find a way to get back into the set as they pulled within six on several occasions before falling 15-25. Set two was more of a battle that had the Pomeroys within striking distance early and often before Marian pulled away to hand SMWC the 16-25 loss. Set three saw the Pomeroys again battle like they have all season, but in the end, they couldn't take set three and fell 14-25.

The Pomeroys will be back in action this October 7 and 8 when they host the SMWC Volleyball Classic presented by Dorsett Automotive. The two day classic will feature five USCAA schools and have the Pomeroys playing in four matches. For more on the classic, visit the official release.
