Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volleyball team fell to Marian University on Friday in Indianapolis 14-25, 17-25, 19-25. The Pomeroys are now 14-13 overall.
SMWC's attack was led by freshman McKenzi Kumpf's eight kills, while junior Brylie Riddell added five kills. Freshman Mary Alvanos recorded 18 assists, and junior Jessica Coombs led SMWC in digs with nine. Defensively, freshman Gabriella Slagle record one solo block and two block assists, while fellow freshman Autum Loughead record two block assists.
The first set of the evening was tight through 11 points as the Knights and Pomeroys were tied at 11. MU however went on to pull away in set one to hand SMWC a 25-14 defeat. The Pomeroys were unable to get going in set two, but gave MU a run for their money in the final set. The Pomeroys found themselves down 10-21 in the final set before going on a 7-1 run to pull within five before falling 19-25.
The Pomeroys will be back in action on Oct. 27, when they host Lincoln Christian in the final regular season match for the Pomeroys. Regardless of Tuesday's outcome, the Pomeroys are guaranteed not to have a losing season in their inaugural season.
