TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College held Rose-Hulman scoreless through the opening 54 minutes before the Fightin' Engineers pulled away for a 5-0 victory Wednesday night at Rose-Hulman Soccer Field.
Goalkeeper
Cileen Saif helped SMWC (0-4) reach halftime in a scoreless tie, making five saves as Rose-Hulman attempted 10 shots during the opening period.
Meagan Hall broke the deadlock in the 55th minute, scoring off an assist from Madison Fleury. The Pomeroys remained within one goal until Emma Johns doubled the advantage in the 72nd minute.
Lena Darini scored twice in less than four minutes, finding the net in the 74th and 77th minutes. Delaney Untermeyer completed the scoring in the 79th minute.
Rose-Hulman (1-0) finished with 27 shots, placing 16 on goal, while SMWC recorded two attempts.
Lauren Gill placed the Pomeroys' lone shot on goal in the 59th minute, and
Mira Atari attempted a shot late in the first half.
Saif,
Priscilla Barajas and
Blair Pope combined for 10 goalkeeper saves. Barajas stopped four shots during the second half, while Pope made one save after entering in the 77th minute. SMWC also recorded a team save.
The Fightin' Engineers held a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.
SMWC returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 9, with a 4 p.m. road match against Taylor University in Upland, Ind.
