SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College continued its perfect start to the 2026 season Saturday, sweeping West Virginia Tech 25-13, 25-17, 25-17 inside the Knoerle Center.
The Pomeroys improved to 22-0 overall and 2-0 in River States Conference play with the victory. West Virginia Tech fell to 0-14 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
SMWC controlled the match offensively and from the service line, finishing with 37 kills and a .214 hitting percentage while collecting 11 service aces. The Pomeroys also totaled 52 digs and six team blocks.
Raimey Owens led the SMWC attack with 11 kills while hitting .348, and
Masa Pesic added eight kills on 16 attempts for a team-best .438 hitting percentage.
Leah Luevanos and
Natalie Knigga each contributed five kills. Luevanos was also a force at the net with two solo blocks and two block assists.
Ayiana Nieves directed the offense with 17 assists while adding three service aces and eight digs.
Alexa Stiff recorded a match-high four service aces, while
Selena Sosa finished with 10 digs and two aces.
Alexa Orozco also collected 10 digs for the Pomeroys.
SMWC established control quickly in the opening set, using an extended run to turn an early advantage into a commanding lead before Owens put away the final point of the 25-13 victory.
The Pomeroys faced a tighter challenge in the second set, which was tied at 15 before SMWC pulled away. A late serving run from Stiff closed the frame, including consecutive aces for the final two points of the 25-17 win.
SMWC completed the sweep with another 25-17 victory in the third set, maintaining control after building an early advantage.
The Pomeroys now turn their attention to another River States Conference matchup when they host IU Kokomo on Tuesday, Sept. 15. First serve is scheduled for
7 p.m. ET inside the Knoerle Center.
