SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball completed an undefeated run through the Showdown in the Woods — Presented by the Terre Haute Convention & Visitors Bureau on Sunday, sweeping Alice Lloyd College and Wright State-Lake University at the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center.
The Pomeroys defeated Alice Lloyd 25-15, 25-9, 25-10 before closing the tournament with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-11 victory over Wright State-Lake. SMWC improved to 14-0 overall and did not drop a set across its four matches during the home tournament.
SMWC controlled the opening match from the service line and at the net, finishing with 14 aces and six blocks while hitting .485 as a team. The Pomeroys recorded 38 kills with only five attacking errors and held Alice Lloyd (1-3) to a .000 hitting percentage.
Ryan Canter led a balanced attack with 10 kills. Karla Melendez-Martinez added six kills, while
Sofia Soto finished with five.
Ayiana Nieves distributed 23 assists and joined
Natalie Knigga and
Ariana Cruz-Gonzalez with three service aces apiece.
Sydni Gardner led the defensive effort at the net with three blocks, while
Gaby Fernandez and
Alexa Stiff collected six digs each.
The Pomeroys were especially efficient in the third set, recording 11 kills without an error on 15 attacks for a .733 hitting percentage.
SMWC carried its momentum into the second match, collecting 45 kills and hitting .305 against Wright State-Lake (3-4). The Pomeroys also finished with eight aces, four blocks and 52 digs.
Masa Pesic paced SMWC with 11 kills, while
Raimey Owens added 10.
Leah Luevanos contributed six kills and two blocks.
Ellie Kleve and Pesic also recorded two blocks apiece.
Lily Richards directed the offense with 21 assists and added seven digs.
Marianna Ayala-Ortiz contributed 12 assists, while
Selena Sosa led the back row with 15 digs.
Daniella Zvonar finished with eight digs.
Stiff and
Alexa Orozco recorded two aces each as SMWC limited Wright State-Lake to 18 kills and a .022 hitting percentage.
Across Sunday's two matches, the Pomeroys totaled 83 kills, 22 aces, 10 blocks, 81 assists and 85 digs. SMWC hit a combined .376 while holding its opponents to a .012 hitting percentage.

SMWC travels to Cleveland, Georgia, for the Labor Day Bear Invitational. The Pomeroys open pool play Friday, Sept. 4, against Montreat College at 8 a.m. before facing Rust College at noon ET and Milligan University at 6 p.m.
Bracket play is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5. The Pomeroys will compete in a quarterfinal at either 8 or 10 a.m., with the semifinal scheduled for noon and the championship match set for 2 p.m.
