SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer opened the 2026 season with a 2-2 draw against Goshen College on Friday afternoon at McMahon Field.
The Pomeroys (0-0-1) overcame an early deficit and carried a one-goal advantage deep into the second half before the Maple Leafs found the equalizer in the closing minutes.
Goshen struck first in the ninth minute when Martim Coelho Alves scored off an assist from Pedro Diegues to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.
SMWC answered before halftime. Andres Gomes scored the Pomeroys' first goal of the season in the 39th minute, finishing a chance set up by
Jacob Quintana to send the match into the break tied at 1-1.
The Pomeroys wasted little time taking their first lead after halftime.
Nikolas Kellner put SMWC in front 2-1 in the 50th minute, with
Mitchell Stewart credited with an assist on the play.
SMWC held the advantage for more than 36 minutes before Goshen drew even in the 86th minute. Isaac Enciso scored the tying goal, with Kyle Phillip and Coelho Alves assisting, to make it 2-2.
Neither side was able to find a winner over the final minutes, leaving both teams with a draw in their season opener.
Gomes and Kellner each recorded their first goals of the 2026 campaign for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, while Quintana and Stewart picked up their first assists.
