OWENSBORO, Ky. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball earned a decisive River States Conference road victory Friday afternoon, sweeping Brescia (Ky.) 3-0 (28-26, 25-19, 25-16) at the Moore Center.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (25-7, 7-6 RSC) used a balanced offensive effort and efficient hitting to control the match, posting a .341 team attack percentage with 41 kills. After edging a tight opening set, the Pomeroys pulled away in the final two frames behind improved offensive rhythm and defensive consistency.
Bentley Meyer and
Tyler Duranceau led the attack with 10 kills apiece, while
Christian Green added seven kills and contributed defensively at the net.
Yammiel Martinez anchored the block with three total blocks, helping limit Brescia's offensive efficiency to a .239 hitting percentage.
Ethan Ricketts and
Ethan Martins split setting duties, each dishing out 18 assists to guide the Pomeroys' balanced distribution. Defensively, Duranceau recorded a team-high seven digs, while Ricketts and
Trevin Matsuba added four digs each.
Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College edged Brescia 28-26 in a competitive first set before settling in offensively. The Pomeroys hit .333 in set two and improved to .423 in the final set to close out the sweep.
Brescia (9-14, 4-9 RSC) was led by Mustafa Yildiz with nine kills, while Remi Pit added eight. Joaquin Palacios recorded a match-high four blocks.
