SMWC Rides Block Party to 3-1 Road Win Over Indiana East

RICHMOND, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team earned a strong River States Conference road victory Tuesday night, defeating Indiana University East 3-1 (25-11, 30-28, 19-25, 25-17) at Lingle Court.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (22-4, 4-3 RSC) controlled the match early, hitting an efficient .478 in the opening set to cruise to a 25-11 win. The Pomeroys followed with a tightly contested second set, outlasting Indiana East 30-28 to take a commanding 2-0 lead.

Indiana University East (5-7, 3-5 RSC) responded in the third set with a dominant .481 hitting percentage to extend the match, but SMWC regrouped in the fourth. The Pomeroys closed strong, hitting .320 in the final frame to secure the 3-1 victory.

Offensively, Tyler Duranceau led the way with 16 kills, while Bentley Meyer added 13 and Yammiel Martinez contributed 11. Martinez was also a force at the net, totaling a match-high 12.0 blocks. Christian Green chipped in 4.0 blocks, helping SMWC control play defensively.

Ethan Ricketts paced the offense with 28 assists and added two service aces, while Ethan Martins provided 12 assists. Defensively, Trevin Matsuba led the Pomeroys with eight digs, followed by Duranceau with five.

As a team, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College hit .260 compared to Indiana East's .143 and held advantages in kills (53-50), blocks (15-3), and assists (45-47).

Indiana East was led by Arthur Barreto and Vinicius Lopes with 16 and 15 kills, respectively, while Brayden Richardson dished out 34 assists.
