WHITING, Ind. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team continued its strong start to the season Friday night, earning a straight-set road victory over Calumet College of St. Joseph, 25-14, 25-22, 25-23, inside the Rittenmeyer Center.
SMWC (10-1) controlled the tempo early, posting a .444 hitting percentage in the opening set while limiting Calumet to just three kills. The Pomeroys followed with consistent offense and steady defense in the final two sets to close out the sweep.
Joseph Szadorski led the Pomeroys with nine kills, adding an ace and four digs.
Daniel Musa finished with eight kills, while
Tyler Duranceau chipped in seven kills and a match-high seven service aces to go along with 10 digs.
SMWC's offense was balanced at the net, as
Jacob Wisniewski and
Dom Smith each recorded eight assists, with
Ethan Martins adding six more. Defensively, Duranceau anchored the back row, while
Francesco Tedeschi,
Noah Boyett and Szadorski each recorded a block.
Calumet (0-9) was led by Cooper Aitken with 10 kills and Lucas Sanchez Caixet with 10 digs. David Navata totaled 16 assists and eight digs for the Crimson Wave.
As a team, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods totaled 37 kills on a .272 hitting percentage, while holding Calumet to a .169 clip on the night.
