KOKOMO, Ind. — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball earned its second win over a nationally ranked opponent this season with a 76–70 victory at No. 25
IU Kokomo on Tuesday night inside the Student Activities & Events Center.
The Pomeroys led wire-to-wire, opening the game on a strong note and building a 41–31 halftime advantage before withstanding a second-half push from the Cougars to secure the statement road win.
Mike Ajukwa delivered a dominant performance off the bench, pouring in a game-high 29 points on an efficient 11-of-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 mark at the free-throw line. Ajukwa also added two rebounds and two assists as SMWC's bench accounted for 34 points on the night.
Jared Bonds chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Ellis Todd contributed nine points and four boards.
DeYon Bell anchored the interior with 10 rebounds, three blocks, and seven points, helping the Pomeroys control the glass with a 40–28 rebounding advantage.
SMWC shot 48.3 percent from the field and connected on 41.2 percent of its three-point attempts, while limiting IU Kokomo to 42.1 percent shooting overall. The Pomeroys also capitalized at the free-throw line, going 13-for-16, including several key makes down the stretch to seal the win.
IU Kokomo was led by Alonzo Clawson-Smith's 18 points, but the Cougars were unable to overcome SMWC's early deficit and interior presence.
The victory improves Saint Mary-of-the-Woods to 12–13 overall and 6–7 in conference play.
The Pomeroys will return to action on Saturday, February 14, when they travel to
Shawnee State for a 3 p.m. (ET) road tip-off.
