ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Andoni Ybanez provided the decisive strike in the 74th minute as the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer team earned a 1–0 road victory over Harris-Stowe State University on Sunday afternoon.
The Pomeroys (2-4-0) battled through a scoreless first half before breaking through midway through the second. Ybanez, coming off the bench, converted his second goal of the season on a setup from
Marc Valderrama, giving SMWC the only goal it would need.
Freshman goalkeeper
Harry Jackson anchored the Pomeroys defensively, recording three saves to collect the clean sheet. SMWC held an 11–7 edge in shots, including a 4–3 advantage on goal, while Harris-Stowe (2-2-1) earned a 7–1 margin in corner kicks.
The match featured two cautions, one to each side, but the Pomeroys kept their composure down the stretch to secure their second win of the season and first shutout.
SMWC will return to action Tuesday, Sept. 9, traveling to Olivet Nazarene for a 7 p.m. (CT) kickoff.
