Pomeroys Earn 24th Victory In Regular Season Road Finale

RICHMOND, Ind. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) men's volleyball rolled to a 3-0 sweep over IU East on Tuesday night, winning by set scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 at the IU East Student Events Center.

The Pomeroys (24-8, 7-7 River States Conference) were efficient on both sides of the net, hitting .296 as a team while holding the Red Wolves to a .047 attack percentage.
SMWC set the tone early, using a balanced attack and strong defense to cruise to a 25-17 win in the opening set.

After an early back-and-forth exchange, the Pomeroys gained separation behind a 6-1 run that included kills from Bentley Meyer and Christian Green, along with a series of IU East attack errors. A block from Charlie Harr and Joseph Szadorski capped a key sequence midway through the frame. SMWC extended its lead to 23-14 thanks to a trio of Red Wolves errors before Meyer delivered the final kill off a set from Kristofers Klavins to seal the set. SMWC hit an impressive .417 in the frame while limiting IU East to -.034.

The Pomeroys kept their foot on the gas in the second set, jumping out to an 8-2 lead behind a pair of service aces from Tyler Duranceau and a strong blocking presence at the net. Szadorski and Klavins combined for a key block early in the run, and Szadorski added a kill to force a Red Wolves timeout. SMWC capitalized on several IU East service errors throughout the set to maintain control, despite a late push from the home team that cut the deficit to 22-19. Bentley Meyer added a timely kill from Klavins, and Joseph Szadorski closed the frame with a kill to give the Pomeroys a 25-20 win.

Indiana East showed signs of life in the third set, staying within striking distance for much of the frame, but SMWC remained composed to close out the sweep.

The Red Wolves and Pomeroys traded points early, with kills from Charlie Harr and Tyler Duranceau pacing each side. Eli Margetts and Britain Givens continued to connect, as Margetts notched multiple kills in the middle portion of the set, including a sharp swing off a Wyatt King assist to tie things at 7-7.

SMWC gained a slight edge after a block from Bentley Meyer and an error by IU East gave the Pomeroys a 12-10 lead. Duranceau and Lauvai Pine later teamed up for a block that forced a Red Wolves timeout.

After the break, Margetts added another kill to make it 14-11, and Christian Green contributed a key kill to maintain the advantage. IU East stayed close, cutting the deficit to one at 17-16 on a kill from Arthur Barreto, but a service error and timely kill from Duranceau kept SMWC in front.

With the Pomeroys up 23-19, Duranceau delivered a service ace to reach match point. Although SMWC committed a service error on the next play, Bentley Meyer's kill—his final of a match-high 10—clinched the set 25-21 and the 3-0 victory.

Bentley Meyer paced SMWC with 10 kills and five digs on the night. Tyler Duranceau added five kills, four digs, and a team-best three aces. Joseph Szadorski chipped in five kills and four blocks. Charlie Harr led all players with six blocks, while Green added four. Klavins guided the offense with 19 assists and contributed defensively with four digs and several key blocks.

SMWC wraps up the regular season at home this weekend inside Knoerle Center, hosting Rio Grande (Ohio) on Friday, April 11 at 7 p.m. ET and Midway (Ky.) on Saturday, April 12.
