Andrej Lindner Paces Pomeroy Volleyball To Road Win Over Greenville (Ill.)

GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team secured a dominant 3-0 road victory against Greenville University on Saturday, March 16. The Pomeroys triumphed with set scores of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-22, improving their season record to 18-6.

Top performers for the Pomeroys included Andrej Lindner, who led the team with 10 kills, and a .400 hitting percentage. Tyler Duranceau was another standout, registering eight kills and an impressive .636 hitting percentage.

Other notable contributions came from Charlie Harr, who posted six kills and a .556 hitting percentage, and Bentley Meyer, who added 4 kills with a .571 hitting percentage.
SMWC's Ethan Martins orchestrated the offense, recording 20 assists, while Jacob Wisniewski was a key defensive presence with five digs and eight assists.

As a team, the Pomeroys recorded a .440 attack percentage and limited Greenville to just .123. Lauvai Pine and Charlie Harr each had two total blocks in the contest.

After a brief 1-0 deficit in the opening set, the Pomeroys quickly surged ahead. Bentley Meyer opened the scoring for SMWC with a kill from Martins, giving the Pomeroys their first lead of the match. A series of errors by Greenville, including a bad set by Martins, contributed to a 24-14 advantage for SMWC.

Key plays from Lindner and Duranceau highlighted the dominance. Lindner recorded multiple kills, including one off a pass from Martins to extend the lead to 23-13. Duranceau also impressed with a kill from Martins, making the score 22-12.

Greenville struggled to maintain momentum as Noah Boyett and Harr capitalized on attack errors from the opposition. Boyett added a kill from Martins at 16-11, and the team continued to build their advantage. A timely service ace by Martins gave the Pomeroys a commanding 10-point lead at 20-10.

The set concluded with a 25-14 score, thanks to Harr's kill from Martins.

After a back-and-forth start to the second set, with the score tied 2-2, SMWC quickly took control. Lindner and Meyer both contributed key kills to push the Pomeroys ahead, with Lindner recording a kill off a pass from Jacob Wisniewski to give SMWC a 5-3 advantage.

Greenville committed several errors, including a service error from Izaiah Fenstermaker and a bad set by Kevin McGhee Jr., which allowed SMWC to extend their lead to 12-6. Martins added to the lead with a service ace, and Harr delivered a kill from Martins at 16-9.

The Pomeroys were clinical in their execution. Josh Stembridge posted a kill from Martins, bringing the score to 15-7, while Lindner's timely kills continued to keep the momentum firmly in SMWC's favor.

Despite a late attack error from Harr, Greenville's efforts were not enough to close the gap. A final attack error by Caleb Day sealed the second-set victory for SMWC at 25-13.

The third set started tightly, with both teams exchanging points early. Greenville led briefly at 2-1 before Lindner and Duranceau sparked a run, with Lindner registering a kill to put SMWC ahead 4-3. The teams remained close through the middle of the set, as Kevin McGhee Jr. and Sam Molitor kept Greenville within striking distance.

With the score tied at 10-10, SMWC went on a crucial 5-0 run. A service ace from Martins, followed by a kill from Harr, pushed the Pomeroys ahead to 15-10. The momentum seemed to shift toward the Pomeroys, but Greenville fought back, pulling within one point at 20-19 after an attack error by SMWC and a kill from Izaiah Fenstermaker.

However, SMWC regained control with key kills from Lindner and Duranceau, holding off Greenville's late push. A final kill by Harr from Martins secured the match for the Pomeroys, with the third-set score reading 25-22.

The Pomeroys will return home to face Oakland City University at 6 p.m. (ET) on Thursday, March 20, inside the Knoerle Center.
