Softball Falls in Season Opener at Branson Bash

BRANSON, MO. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College softball team opened the 2025 season with a pair of losses to nationally regarded Midwest programs at the Branson Bash on Friday.

In the opener, Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) relied on a balanced offensive attack to pick up a 10-2 victory.  Kyar McVey led the SMWC offense with a single, two runs scored and two stolen bases.  Jaleigh Crawford added an RBI single and one walk.

The SMWC game one offense also included singles from Emily Singleton, Lanna Martinez and Hannah Boardman.

In the nightcap, Evangel (Mo.) pitcher Maddy Meierer tossed a one-hit gem with seven strikeouts to lead the Valor to an 8-0 victory.  Evangel finished 37-9 last season and split a four-game series with nationally No. 1 ranked Our Lady of the Lake last weekend.

Jasmine Kinzer had a single to lead the SMWC offensive effort.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods completes the Branson Bash against York (NE) at 9:30 am CT and Mission University (MO) at 11:30 am CT on Saturday.
