OWENSBORO, Ky. — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's volleyball team suffered a tough 3-0 loss to Brescia (Ky.) in River States Conference action Thursday night. The loss dropped SMWC's record to 13-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
SMWC struggled in the opening set, falling 25-15, but bounced back in the second and third sets. Despite strong performances, SMWC was unable to overcome Brescia's balanced attack, losing the second set 28-26 and the third set 28-26 to seal the match.
The Pomeroys were led by
Joseph Szadorski, who posted a team-high 10 kills, while
Bentley Meyer added nine kills.
Christian Green also contributed with six kills and two aces, while
Yammiel Martinez and Szadorski each tallied three blocks.
Kristofers Klavins dished out 25 assists, while
Trevin Matsuba led the team with 10 digs.
Brescia's Joaquin Palacios led all players with 13 kills, while Mustafa Yildiz added nine. Meric Akovali totaled 33 assists and 11 digs to help guide Brescia to its 6-3 record and 3-0 mark in the River States Conference.
SMWC will quickly regroup for a road matchup at Oakland City on Saturday, March 1, at 1 p.m. (CT).
