SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball team remained unbeaten with an 81–70 victory over visiting Judson (Ill.) on Tuesday afternoon inside Hamilton Arena. The Pomeroys improved to 2-0 on the young season behind a balanced offensive effort and strong second-half surge.
Senior
Ellis Todd led the way with 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting while adding seven assists and five rebounds.
Ikechi Ajukwa added 16 points and seven boards, and
Christopher Owens contributed 12 points and six rebounds.
The Pomeroys trailed 36–37 at halftime before outscoring Judson 44–34 in the second period, highlighted by 58 points in the paint and 23 points off turnovers. SMWC shot 44.6 percent from the field and converted 85.7 percent of its free throws (12-of-14).
SMWC's bench provided a key boost, with
Quamar Hobbs and
Jared Bonds combining for 11 points and eight rebounds.
Thomas Girma chipped in eight points, helping the Pomeroys pull away midway through the second half for their largest lead of 13 with just over 10 minutes to play.
Judson (0-3) was led by
Hunter Duncan's 12 points and seven assists, while
Luke Stoddard and
Bronson Bartuch each added 10.
The Pomeroys will look to continue their winning start when they travel to IU-Northwest on
Friday, November 7, at
3 p.m. (CT) to open play in the IU-Northwest Tournament.
