SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College junior outside hitter
Karla Melendez has been named the
River States Conference Attacker of the Week for the final week of the regular season, marking her
fourth weekly award of the 2025 campaign.
Melendez, a native of
Caguas, Puerto Rico and graduate of
Colegio Católico Notre Dame, capped the regular season with another stellar offensive performance, averaging
4.56 kills per set while hitting
.221 over two conference matches. She totaled
41 kills, 31 digs, and 45.5 points across nine sets, leading the Pomeroys in kills both nights.
In a five-set battle at IU Columbus on November 7, Melendez posted
18 kills, 16 digs, and 19 total points. She followed with one of her best matches of the season on November 8 at IU Southeast, exploding for
23 kills on a .283 hitting percentage along with
15 digs, two service aces, and two total blocks.
Her consistent production has powered SMWC to a
29-5 overall record and a
No. 2 seed in this year's River States Conference Tournament. The Pomeroys will host
No. 7 Shawnee State (Ohio) in the
RSC Quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 11 at 7 p.m. (ET) inside the
Knoerle Center.
