SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net in a 2-0 loss to Indiana University Kokomo on Thursday evening at the SMWC Soccer Complex.
IU Kokomo (4-4-3, 1-1-1 RSC) struck first in the 20th minute when Avery Wilson scored the opening goal off an assist from Gia Tumber. The Cougars extended their advantage midway through the second half as Charity Lewis found the net in the 61st minute.
Despite the result, SMWC (1-9-1, 1-3 RSC) battled throughout the match and generated six total shots, including four on target. The Pomeroys' defense was anchored by a strong effort in goal, as the SMWC keeper tallied 11 saves against the Cougars' 24-shot attack.
IU Kokomo controlled much of the possession, earning a 10-2 edge in corner kicks while limiting SMWC's offensive chances. Both sides played a disciplined match with only 10 combined fouls and no cautions.
The Pomeroys will look to regroup and defend their home field on Saturday, October 18, when they host Indiana University East at 1 p.m. (ET) at the SMWC Soccer Complex.
