SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team delivered another strong showing Friday evening, sweeping IU East 3-0 inside the Knoerle Center. The Pomeroys improved to 21-2 overall and 5-1 in River States Conference play with the victory.
SMWC controlled the match from the start, taking the sets by scores of 25-21, 25-17, and 25-20. The Pomeroys hit .275 as a team, led by a balanced attack and stout defensive play in front of 230 fans.
Junior
Masa Pesic powered the offense with a match-high 15 kills while hitting .343, adding two aces and two blocks.
Lisanel Rodriguez and
Karla Melendez each tallied nine kills, while setter
Aden Britt efficiently directed the attack with 33 assists.
Defensively,
Leishmarie Virella anchored the back row with 16 digs. At the net,
Felicia Omosebi registered four blocks and Melendez added three more to help contain the Red Wolves' hitters.
IU East (10-14, 3-3 RSC) was led by
Noema Philistin-Lynch with eight kills, while
Ella Bickel notched a match-high 20 digs. The Red Wolves were limited to a .109 hitting percentage.
With the sweep, SMWC extended its winning ways at home and solidified its spot near the top of the conference standings. The Pomeroys will return to action
Wednesday, Oct. 8, when they host Midway (Ky.) at 6 p.m. (ET) inside the Knoerle Center.
