Pomeroys Fall in Season Opener at Huntington

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team opened its 2025–26 campaign on the road Saturday afternoon, falling 89-23 to Huntington University inside Platt Arena.

The Foresters (2-0) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, holding the Pomeroys (0-1) to single digits in each quarter. Huntington used a balanced attack and shot 52.8 percent from the field while outrebounding SMWC 58-26.

Senior Jonnaya Harris and sophomore Samara Douglas paced the Pomeroys with seven points apiece. Harris added five rebounds and two steals, while Douglas contributed four rebounds. Freshman Aubrey Ervin chipped in four points and a rebound, and sophomore Nadiya Figures provided two points and a steal off the bench.

Despite struggling from the floor, the Pomeroys found opportunities in the paint, scoring 12 of their 23 points inside. Harris connected on SMWC's first three-pointer of the season, and Ervin added another from beyond the arc.

Huntington was led by Allison Price with 17 points and seven assists. Liv Raby added a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

SMWC will look to bounce back when the Pomeroys travel to Bourbonnais, Illinois, to face Olivet Nazarene University on Friday, Oct. 31. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. CT.
