Pomeroys Tie Shawnee State on Senior Day in RSC Matchup

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's soccer team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Shawnee State University in River States Conference play.

The Pomeroys (5-9-1, 3-2-1 RSC) grabbed momentum late in the first half when freshman Andoni Ybanez scored in the 43rd minute. He finished a feed from Marc Valderrama to give SMWC a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Shawnee State (7-4-4, 3-3-2 RSC) equalized just minutes into the second half. Clement Akanyah netted his 10th goal of the season in the 49th minute, assisted by Nikos Pontikis, to bring the Bears level.

Both teams had chances throughout the second half, but neither side could break the deadlock. SMWC's goalkeeper Harry Jackson made four saves on five shots faced, while Shawnee State's  Forsythe stopped four shots of his own. The Pomeroys outshot the Bears 13-11 overall, with each side registering five shots on goal.

The Pomeroys will return to action on Monday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. (ET) when they resume their suspended match against IU-East. The contest will be played on the campus of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
