BECKLEY, W.Va. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball team rolled to its 26th victory of the season Saturday afternoon, sweeping WVU Tech 25-23, 25-17, 25-18 at Van Meter Gym. With the win, the Pomeroys move to 26-2 overall and 10-1 in River States Conference play.
Junior outside hitter
Karla Melendez continued her standout campaign, recording a match-high 13 kills on .303 hitting while adding 10 digs and two aces for 16.0 points. Senior opposite
Masa Pesic added 12 kills with a .296 attack percentage, two aces, and two blocks for another 16.0 points. Middle hitter
Sofia Soto contributed six kills on .500 hitting with two blocks.
Setter
Aden Britt ran the offense with 31 assists and chipped in nine digs, while defensive specialist
Leishmarie Virella anchored the back row with a team-high 10 digs.
Evelyn Morales and
Natalie Knigga each added two blocks at the net.
As a team, SMWC finished with 38 kills on .224 hitting compared to 33 kills and a .104 mark for WVU Tech. The Pomeroys also held the edge in blocks (9-4) and service aces (6-5) while matching the Golden Bears with 47 digs.
WVU Tech was led by Ivana Burgos and Aniston Treadway with eight kills apiece, while setter Anais Gonzalez tallied 13 assists.
