IU-Northwest Tops SMWC At Home

SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team roared back from an early deficit in the second quarter but it was not enough as visiting IU-Northwest defeat the Pomeroys 74-63 on Sunday afternoon (Dec. 1) inside Knoerle Center.

SMWC fell to 6-4 on the season while IU-Northwest improved to 8-1. The Pomeroys will travel to Cumberlands (Ky.) on December 13 in a game that will begin at 5:30 p.m. (ET).

Diamond Bryant recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the game while Madison Fueger posted 16 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers. Brooklynn Jones tallied 11 points while Irye Gomez tallied seven points and Kylee Stepp posted a pair of second half 3-pointers to score six points.

The Pomeroys hit 9-of-21 from 3-point range in the game but were limited to just 37.7 percent shooting from the field. Abby Worley led SMWC with five assists. The Pomeroys scored 13 points off the fast break.

Jones hit a jumper with 28 seconds left in the first quarter to trim the deficit down to just 18-6. SMWC recorded its largest run of the game -- an 8-0 spurt was capped by a Fueger lay-up to get within 27-20 with just over three minutes to go. Stepp came into the game and buried a 3-pointer from the top of the key on the first possession of the third quarter to make it 33-27 but that would be as close as the Pomeroys would get the rest of the way in falling 74-63.
