Saint Mary-of-the-Woods won its eighth straight match of the season and extended its run of consecutive sets won to 22 with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 victory against Kalamazoo on Saturday morning.
The Pomeroys were led by
Hannah Zuege with 11 kills and
Alex Hernandez with nine kills. Hernandez posted a .615 hitting percentage to help the Pomeroys improve its team hitting percentage to .294. That mark ranks No. 5 in the NAIA through the early season.
SMWC had 10 services in the match, led by four from senior
Zula DeJesus. SMWC ranks 7th in the nation with 85 aces.
"We had a lot of energy. We usually always do, but today we held it through the whole match. That helped a lot," said Hernandez, a junior college transfer making an immediate impact.
"I couldn't do it without the setters. I would say we're pretty stacked in all positions. It was a battle trying to get the starting position and I'm glad that I did."
