Pomeroys rack up 23 hits in doubleheader sweep

PITTSBURGH, PA. -- The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep Thursday at Point Park by scores of 7-5 and 11-0.
"Today was a really good way to bounce back after kind of giving a game away (Wednesday at Carlow) that we felt like we should have won," coach Jim Walker said.
In the opener, freshman Lanna Martinez (7-4) earned the win, while Summer Rocha retired the last two outs for the save.
Lyric Krause (West Terre Haute/West Vigo) was 2 for 4 with 3 RBIs. Freshman Jaleigh Crawford (Elwood, Ind./Elwood) was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
"Lanna kind of ran out of gas but pitched really well until then and it was nice knowing that we could bring in Summer to close the game," Walker said.
In the second game, the Pomeroys' offense exploded for seven runs in the second inning with the entire lineup producing at least one hit.
Tori Lee (North Vernon, Ind./Jennings County) was 3 for 4 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs.
Krause went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI.
Camryn Scott (Terre Haute, Ind/TH North) was 2 for 4 with three RBIs and a stolen base.
Freshman Jasmine Kinzer (Terre Haute, Ind./TH South) tossed five shutout innings to earn the win.
"I felt as though I pitched well, especially with incorporating my change-ups to catch them off guard," Kinzer said. "I cannot wait to improve more on my pitching throughout the season."
Scott was pleased to see her team put together a strong all-around performance.
"It was nice to see us play the way we know how and not let up at any point," Scott said. "Everyone worked together really well today and it was nice to see that work in our favor while wee took two."
