Pomeroys split with Oakland City, clinch RSC tourney berth

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods lost 6-5 and rebounded for a 6-0 win against Oakland City, clinching a River States Conference postseason berth Tuesday in the team's final home game.
It was the final home game for senior second baseman Camryn Scott, who stole four bases and had four hits and four runs. Scott reached 48 stolen bases this season, which is tied for third in the NAIA.
"In the back of my mind, I secretly wanted to beat myself (from 2022). It's kind of become my thing, I guess," Scott said, focused on the team's success. "Overall, we're performing the way we did last year, more like the championship team from last year."
The Pomeroys (30-14, 16-8 RSC) will travel to Midway on Friday and Brescia on Saturday to close the regular-season.
"These guys put losses behind them pretty quick. That's really important going into the conference tournament," coach Jim Walker said.

GAME 1
Lanna Martinez (12-5) got touched for a pair of home runs that proved costly and the Saint Mary-of-the-Woods offense couldn't compensate enough.
Tori Lee followed up Scott's leadoff double in the first with her 10th home run of the season, but Oakland City came back with five runs in the top of the second and one more in the third.
Gracie Ables tossed four shutout innings in relief to give the Pomeroys a chance to rally.
Lee added an RBI double in the fourth.
Jasey Conn had two doubles and scored two runs.

GAME 2
Summer Rocha (10-7) tossed her second straight complete-game shutout, scattering four hits and a walk.
"My curve was working really well early then I was hitting the corners with my fastball," Rocha said.
"Summer stepped up and pitched the way we expected her to all year," Walker said. "She's pitching now like a first-team all-conference pitcher."
The SMWC broke through in the fourth to break a scoreless tie. Scott singled and stole second base then Jaleigh Crawford drove Scott in with a single through the left side of the infield.
The Pomeroys piled on in the sixth. Scott raced down the line for an infield single and stole second.
Justyce Rohrabaugh followed with an RBI single then stole second. Jaleigh Crawford drove her in, then scored on a double by Lyric Krause. Tori Lee then connected on the team's eighth extra-base hit with an RBI double to score pinch runner Kaley Cottom. Conn added an RBI single.
"We hit the ball well today, even in the first game," Walker said.
