RIO GRANDE, OHIO -- The SMWC women's basketball team finished a 2-0 weekend and improved to 3-1 with a 78-64 victory against Taylor University on Saturday at the Bevo Francis Classic.

Allyson Hardiek had a pair of fourth-quarter blocked shots to give her the SMWC career record with 133, and junior transfer
Madison Fueger posted a double-double with 26 points and 12 rebounds. Fueger went 11 of 22 from the field for her best game as a Pomeroy.
Irye Gomez added 11 points to make the All-Tournament team after scoring 28 on Friday.
Hardiek's fourth-quarter jumper stretched the Pomeroys 4
th-quarter lead to 11 points and the Pomeroys pulled away, leading by as many as 22 points.
"The Classic had great competition," coach
Terry Bowe said. "We shot the ball extremely well and defended well."
The Pomeroys came out firing on all cylinders in the first quarter with Fueger scoring the first five points and
Brooklynn Jones converting a layup to make it 7-0 less than two minutes into the action.
SMWC took a 25-12 lead after the first quarter as
Kylee Stepp led the Pomeroys with nine points, hitting three 3-pointers.
The Pomeroys cooled off in the second quarter after shooting 58 percent in the first as Taylor pulled within 35-33 at halftime.
Fueger had nine points and four rebounds in the third quarter to keep SMWC ahead four after the third quarter. Fueger scored eight more in the fourth.
Stepp finished 4-of-6 from 3-point range for 12 points.
Abby Worley had eight assists, giving her 15 for the tournament. She helped the Pomeroys total 40 assists to 24 turnovers in the two games.
"Assists were high and energy level was great," Bowe said. "We executed and withstood runs in both games."
The Pomeroys shot 42 percent overall and 32 percent from 3-point range.
