Mark Zmojdzin reached double-digit kills for the fourth straight match with 10 kills, but host Adrian College picked up a 25-17, 25-12, 25-22 victory over the Pomeroys (0-4).
Andrej Lindner added six kills, with a .400 hitting percentage, but no other attacker had more than two kills.Â
Connor Orrock led SMWC with eight assists, while
Ethan Martins added six.
NCAA Division III Adrian (5-1) got off to a strong start in the opening set and was even better in the second.Â
SMWC seemed to find its stride in the third set.
After falling behind 7-0, SMWC stormed back to tie the score at 13-13 after consecutive blocks by
Josh Stembridge and
Anioma Njokanma.Â
Njokanma and Stembridge added a kill apiece to keep the Pomeroys within a point. Orrock set up Zmojdzin for a kill to knot the score at 17.Â

Yammiel Martinez ace put the Pomeroys ahead 19-18, but the host Bulldogs ran off three straight points behind a pair of aces by Branden Gula.Â
After pulling within 21-20 on a finish by Zmojdzin, Zach Molnar put away two kills to put Adrian back up 24-20. Chase Heuer finished off the win for the Bulldogs on a kill.Â
SMWC returns to NAIA action in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference on Friday at Goshen.
