Box Score Saint Mary-of-the-Woods Pomeroys welcomed the Midway Eagles (2-2-1) to SMWC Soccer Field for a River States Conference matchup. This was the Pomeroys 2
nd conference game as they were still looking to get their first conference point of the early soccer season after falling to Oakland City last Thursday. The highlight of the match was the return of Thaler and Buckley to the starting lineup and Buckley celebrated her senior day before the match.
The Pomeroys opened the scoring at the 12:55 mark of the first half with a
Raelee Everhart goal with an assist by
Sierra Mullins. Midway wouldn't answer until the second half with a goal by Haylee Applegate to tie things up. This would be the final score of the match ending in a 1-1 draw.
Thaler and Buckley would return to the starting lineup for the Pomeroys and the senior leadership was felt by everyone on the Pomeroy bench. "Ever since Rose-Hulman we went with no leadership on the field, all of our captains were on the bench," head coach Ron Kiernicki said, "You can tell there were moments where the girls were starting to breakdown, they were getting tired, losing their minds a little bit and you heard the leadership from Thaler in the net really keeping the team where she needed them to be."
The tie moves the Pomeroys to 1-3-2 on the year and 0-1-1 in conference play. The Pomeroys next matchup is on the road at IU Kokomo on Sept 29
th at 5:00pm.
