Saint Mary-of-the-Woods fell to 1-4 in River States Conference play Sunday at the Knoerle Center, mounting a second-half rally before falling by a final of 59-46 to Brescia.
Neither team was accurate from a shooting perspective thanks to strong defensive efforts from both teams, but the visiting Bearcats were especially determined during the opening 20 minutes. The Pomeroys shot 15 percent in the first half, connecting on just 4 of 26 from the field and 0 for 9 from 3-point range. SMWC had 18 turnovers in the first half as Brescia built a 32-8 lead.
The Pomeroys' defensive effort was solid, holding the Bearcats to 30.2 percent overall (19 for 63) and 3 for 23 from beyond the arc.
SMWC went scoreless for 6 minutes, 5 seconds early in the game as Brescia took an 11-4 lead. The Bearcats then went on a 9-0 run over the next 2 1/2 minutes to stretch their lead to 20-4.
Tarik Dixon's jumper with 5:42 left in the first half was the Pomeroys' final points of the half as Brescia finished on an 8-0 run.
In the second half, the Pomeroys were 14 for 32 from the field (43.8 percent) with just seven turnovers.

Tarik Dixon each had 10 points in the second half as the Pomeroys clawed to within 13 points, 54-41, with 3:03 to go.
Germain finished with a team-high 14 points. Dixon had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Edington had his first-career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Pomeroys return to action Wednesday at Cincinnati-Clermont at 7 p.m.
