The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods women's volleyball team is officially into the second half of the River States Conference schedule heading into a pair of big RSC matches this weekend at Hamilton Arena.Â
The Pomeroys take on West Virginia Tech on Friday night at 7 p.m. The Golden Bear bring a 7-16 overall record and 4-5 RSC mark into the action. WVU Tech sits in third place in the RSC East, while SMWC is fourth in the RSC West with its league record of 6-4.Â
The Pomeroys then play host to Rio Grande (13-8, 7-3 RSC), the second-place RSC West Division team, on Saturday at noon.Â
"It's going to play two tougher teams, slightly different from one another. They're powerful, they're experienced teams, both of them," coach
Ashley Harris said. "We've just got to make sure we're coming in and staying consistent. It's been a whole week since we've had a match. We're trying to stay focused on what we need to work on, but those should be some good matches."Â
The Pomeroys are coming off a pair of road wins at Oakland City and Brescia last weekend. This weekend will go a long way in helping SMWC maintain a spot among the top eight in the overall RSC standings, which is needed to qualify for the RSC Tournament.Â
"We're sitting pretty good right now, right in the middle of that top eight. If we can continue what we've been doing, I'm optimistic that we will be able to make it this year," Harris said.Â
