Women's Basketball Loses Close One to IU-East 61-71

Red Wolves Pull Away in 4th Quarter

RICHMOND, Ind. – The SMWC Women's Basketball (9-4) lost  by IU-East 61-71 yesterday evening in a closely contested game. Despite the Red Wolves entering the game with a 14-5 record and 5-2 in the RSC, the Pomeroys fought a hard 40 minutes to push them to the brink. SMWC would lead 49-46 at the end of the 3rd quarter but a quick 9-2 run by IU-East to start the 4th game them a lead they wouldn't relinquish. The Pomeroys would tie the game at 58-58 with 3:45 left to play but some tough fouls and missed shots would leave the Pomeroys playing catch-up.
By the Numbers
  • Allyson Hardiek, the December player-of-the-month, would lead the team with 13 points. She was followed closely by Sydney Ingram (12), Abby Worley (11), and Aliyah Williams (10).
  • Hardiek would also lead the team in rebounds, pulling down 7. Worley was the team leader in assists with 6.
  • The Pomeroys had a tough shooting night, going just 35.6% from the field and 18.2% from 3pt range. The team continues to post strong numbers at the line, going 17-20 on the night.
  • The Pomeroys would win the turnover battle 13-18, but would out-foul the Red Wolves 24-21.

Both the men's and women's teams will face Carlow University on January 20th at 5:30 p.m. ET for the women and 7:30 for the men.
