Volleyball Defeats UMFK 3-1, D'Youville 3-0 to open USCAA National Tournament

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA.The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) women's volleyball team (13-14) was in action Thursday afternoon to kick off USCAA National Championship Pool Play. SMWC earned the #1 overall seed and went undefeated on the day, knocking off the #4 seed University of Maine at Fort Kent 3-1, and the #5 seed D'Youville College 3-0 to move within 2 wins from a National Championship!

The Highlights | vs. University of Maine at Fort Kent
  • Hannah Zuege, Alexis Woodburn, and Jocelyn Rivas paced the team in kills vs UMFK (Zuege – 16, Woodburn – 14, Rivas – 9)
  • Zuege also led the team in digs with 17, followed by 13 from Rivas and Adrienne Roberts
  • Roberts led the way in the assist category, with 34 for the game

The Highlights | vs. D'Youville College
  • Hannah Zuege once again led the way in kills for the team, this time putting up 25 vs D'Youville College. Zuege's 25 kills set a new USCAA Tournament Single Match Record for kills, and Zuege also now owns the school single season record for kills with 402 and counting.
  • Adrienne Roberts added 29 assists, bringing her total to 63 on the day between the two games
  • Zuege, Rivas, and Evelyn Arreola led the team in digs with 11, 9, and 9 respectively.

What's Next?
The women's volleyball team is back on the court today and will take the winner of Carlow University and Bay Path University at 2:00 pm E.T. for the right to move on to the USCAA National Championship game
