Box Score ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) men's soccer team (3-0-1) continued their impressive start to the season with a 1-0 win over University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy (UHSP) in St. Louis this evening. Sophomore Jose Godoy netted his first goal of his collegiate career on a wing cross from Juan Parra 5 yards out.
How It Happened
1st Half: UHSP had an early chance to score but couldn't connect as keeper Andrew Aceituno made a solid save in just the 2'. Neither team could capitalize on possessions until a beautiful set-up from freshman Juan Parra set Sophomore Jose Godoy up for the go-ahead score and the first of his career. Both sides would suffer from discipline issues as the fouls started to rack up. Sophomore Marcus Massop would be shown a yellow card in the 36'.
2nd Half: UHSP would ramp up their offensive attack coming out of the half which would get them in some trouble and give them scoring opportunities. Missed shots and multiple yellows would eventually doom UHSP as they couldn't get any real momentum. Continued fouls and strong defense would help the Pomeroys notch their third win of the season.

On the team's strong road win...
"Great efforts lead to great wins. We played well today. We do have to work on our second half, but I appreciated the player's energy during this game, especially [since] we played [so] many games this week, which wasn't easy."
