#PomeroyVB Goes 3-0 at Illinois Tech Tournament

CHICAGO, Ill. (Women's Volleyball) --  The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's volleyball traveled to the Illinois Institute of TechnologyTournament from Oct. 20-21. SMWC went head to head with the Illinois Institute of Technology, Robert Morris University – Springfield, and Silver Lake College.  Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College played well and came away with three wins to set their record at 12-11 for the season.

The Pomeroys opened play on Friday against the host, Illinois Tech, with a 3-1 victory with set scores of 25-9, 25-14, (25-22), and 25-15.

McKenzi Kumpf led the way for the Pomeroys as she racked up 17 kills and seven service aces. Kumpf was followed by Gabriella Slagle with 13 kills and three solo blocks. Not to be outdone, Monica Mack recorded 11 kills. SMWC's table was kept set by Katelyn Cotter with game-high 37 assists. Defensively, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College had three players in double digits with digs. Madeline Howes was the leader with 14 digs. Mary Alvanos and Pamela Dorman accounted for 13 digs and 10 digs, respectively.

As a team, SMWC finished the match with 53 kills, 39 assists, and 60 digs.

The Scarlet Hawks were led by Taylor Burton with 12 kills and Alyssa Miner with 10 kills. The assist leader for IIT was Natalie Freund with 26. Defensively, Illinois Tech was led  by Courtney Curcio with 21 digs.

Collectively, the team finished the match with 34 kills, 28 assists, and 53 digs.

In their second match, SMWC soundly defeated RMU-Springfield in three sets with scores of 25-6, 25-11, and 25-9.

Mack was the leader for the Pomeroys in this match with 15 kills and four total blocks. Slagle posted 10 kills as well. Cotter, again, was the offensive initiator as she set up 28 assists. Kumpf and Howes were the defensive leaders in digs with 14 and 12, respectively.

SMWC finished with 42 kills, 34 assists, and 44 digs.

The Eagles were led by Hannah Williams with four kills. The assist leader was Brooke Franklin with six. Abby Gilmore held down the defensive effort with six digs.

RMU-Springfield finished the match with 11 kills, nine assists, and 25 digs.

The Pomeroys closed played against Silver Lake and downed the Lakers in three sets with scores of 25-9, 25-12, and 25-10.

The duo of Mack and Slagle put the ball down on the court for 10 kills each. Cotter kept the table set for the tandem with 28 assists. Kumpf and Howes continued their defensive ways in the digs category with 17 and 10, respectively.

The team recorded 39 kills, 32 assists, and 42 digs.

The kill leader for Silver Lake was Tasha Rabe with four. Katelyn Stascak and Hannah Severin each accounted for two assists. Defensively, Sierra Schobert finished the night with five digs.

Collectively, the Lakers ended the match with six kills, five assists, and 23 digs.

Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College will continue being road warriors as they travel to Greenville College for a tri-match with the Panthers and Knox College on Tuesday, Oct. 24. The Pomeroys will play Knox at 6 p.m. and Greenville at 8 p.m.
