#PomeroyWSC Battles to the End in Season Opening Loss

Box Score

WHITING, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's soccer team fell, 2-1, in a highly competitive match with Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday. The Pomeroys faced CCSJ on day one of the Calumet College of St. Joseph Tournament in Whiting, Ind. to open their 2016 campaign.

It was the first action the Pomeroys have seen in 2016, and they battled through the entire match. The first half went off without any scoring, while senior Georgie Macy made one of her two saves in the game.

The second half was packed with offense, as CCSJ put away two goals and SMWC put away one. The Crimson Wave notched two goals in the 57th and 65th minute, but the Pomeroys didn't go away quietly as freshman Ashley Jezik recorded her first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute to give CSSJ a challenge up until the final minute.

Day two of the tournament will feature SMWC against TBD in the consolation game at 9 a.m.
