Box Score BEREA, Ky. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volleyball team fell to the defending USCAA National Champion, Florida College on Friday for day one of the USCAA Battlefield Classic hosted by Berea. The Pomeroys fell to FC, 3-0 (8-25, 19-25, 17-25), and are now 1-11 on the year.
Sophomore Gabriella Slagle led the Pomeroys in kills for the second match in a row, as she recorded 10. Sophomore Monica Mack recorded a team high 11 digs, while sophomore Autum Loughead recorded a team high 22 assists.
The Pomeroys got off to a rocky start in set one, but rebounded and battled in sets two and three. In set two, the Pomeroys were within two 15-17 before Florida College's attack took over in the end of the set. Set three was another battle that had SMWC tied with FC 10-10. With the Pomeroys trailing 15-18, FC's attack again took over in the end of the match to down the Pomeroys.
SMWC will be back in action on day two of the USCAA Battlefield Classic on Saturday. The Pomeroys will face Johnson and Wales at 10 a.m., Carlow at noon and Florida National at 4 p.m.
