Box Score GREENVILLE, Ill. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volleyball team fell to Greenville College on Tuesday night, 3-0 (14-25, 20-25, 18-25). The Pomeroys now sit at 5-5 on the year as they head into the USCAA North South Battlefield Classic, which may prove to be the program's most important weekend of matches this season.
Freshman Gabriella Slagle led the Pomeroys in kills with eight, while junior Brylie Riddell added seven and freshman Autum Loughead recorded six. Sophomore Madeline Howes record double-digit digs for eighth time this season with 10.
The Pomeroys never led in the first set, as they committed nine attack errors on their way to a 25-14 defeat. The second set saw the Pomeroys straighten up as they stayed tight with GC throughout the set and were within two, 18-20, before a run by GC finished the set off 25-20. The third set saw GC put together a 10-3 run to cap the set at 25-18.
The Pomeroys will be back in action this weekend at the USCAA North South Battlefield Classic hosted by Berea College. The Pomeroys will face Florida College and Concordia-Alabama on September 25 and then will wait to see who they will play on day two of the classic. Florida College is the defending 2014 USCAA Volleyball National Champion.
