Box Score Columbia, Ky. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College women's basketball team fell to Lindsey Wilson on Tuesday, 106-80. The Blue Raiders are currently receiving votes in the NAIA DI Coaches' Poll, while the Pomeroys sit at ninth in the USCAA DI Coaches' Poll. The Pomeroys now are 5-7 on the year and will have a break until January 7.
Freshman Callan Taylor led the Pomeroys with 17 points, while junior Na-Shaunda Rayford added a season-high 13 points. Rayford also led the team on the glass with a season-high eight rebounds. Junior Ja'Breena Gardner dished out a team-high three assists, while sophomore Tara Parmer recorded a team-high three steals.
The Pomeroys found themselves tied with the Blue Raiders on two occasions in the first quarter and were within striking distance of taking the lead for the majority of the first 10 minutes. However, the Blue Raiders closed out the first quarter with a 13-5 run to take a 28-19 lead into the second quarter. LWU's lead then extended to 42-24 with 6:30 left in the half. The Pomeroys scored 16 second quarter points compared to LWU's 24 and went into the break 52-35. The Pomeroys scored 45 points in the second half to finish the game strong. The Pomeroys best quarter came in the fourth when they scored 22 points and held the Blue Raiders to 24 points.
The Pomeroys will now go on a 16-day break before getting back on the hardwood on January 7 at Cincinnati Clermont. The meeting with UCC will be one of seven games left against USCAA opponents for the ninth ranked Pomeroys.
