Pomeroys Go 1-1 on First Day of USCAA Volleyball Nationals

CANTON, N.Y. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College volleyball team went 1-1 on day one of pool play at the USCAA National Tournament in Canton, N.Y. The fifth-seeded Pomeroys defeated No. 9 Maine-Fort Kent in their first game, 2-0 (26-24, 25-22) and fell to No. 1 Florida College, 0-2 (20-25, 29-27).

In SMWC's first game, freshman Monica Mack tied her season-high of eight kills to lead the team. Junior Brylie Riddell added five kills. Freshman Mary Alvanos recorded 20 assists, while freshman Madeline Howes and Riddell both recorded double-digit digs with 12 and 13, respectively.

In game two of the day, it was freshman Autum Loughead who led the team in kills with five. Alvanos notched 16 assists and Howes added a team-high seven kills.

The Pomeroys will finish off pool play tomorrow when they face No. 4 Alfred State at 10:00 a.m. and No. 8 Penn State Brandywine at 1:00 p.m. At the conclusion of pool play tomorrow, the tournament bracket will be set and matches will begin at 4 p.m. You can follow the action LIVE on the USCAA Volleyball Championship Website
