Box Score EAST CHICAGO, Ind. – The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) soccer team didn't get off to the start they were looking for in the 2014 season opener at Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ). The Pomeroys fell to the Crimson Wave 5-1 in the first round of the CCSJ Tournament on Saturday.
The Crimson Wave got on the board first after tallying a goal at the 33:15 mark. CCSJ's goal with 11:45 to play in the first half would be the only goal in the first 45 minutes of play. Sophomore Georgie Macy made six saves in the first half and matched that number in the second half to give her 12 saves on the day.
In the second period, the Crimson Wave moved their lead to 2-0 after scoring at the 57:25 mark. The Pomeroys would answer at the 66:59 mark to cut CCSJ's lead to one. Scoring SMWC's lone goal of the match was junior Kylee White.
In the final 23 minutes of play, the Crimson Wave scored three more goals with the final goal coming in the 85th minute.
